A common question Rip is asked when we’re on the road at a Starting Strength seminar is how many chicks WFAC has. Although few in numbers in relation to the rest of the membership, the girls of WFAC are pretty special.
Most of them compete in something or other and all come to the gym with the mindset of getting stronger. There is nothing special about our training, we do the work and get on with it. I’ve never really understood the question, ‘How do I get women to squat?’ Well, you’re the coach, if you want them strong and useful, you coach them through the lifts. If they set the schedule of their sessions then you’re probably a fine personal trainer. NBD. But if you’re dedicated to having strong chicks in your gym, then get a barbell on their back. They don’t need to be the strongest at the meet or at the mud run, they just need to do their best. And if they’re squatting and pulling, they’re pretty awesome.
