Brett Crossland reports back with a little colour in a letter to Doc:
Thanks again for all your support this weekend we all had a great time and seemed to lift fairly well. The venue was one of the best I have seen with the stage being elevated and lit up like christmas, it was literally 30 degrees warmer on the stage than anywhere else. Josh opened with 110 on the snatch and went to 120 on his second, and finished with 130 on his third. I dont think he has snatched that much in over a year or two so needless to say he was really happy considering he missed 110 a couple of times Thursday. After the snatch he was in 3rd by 8 kg over a guy from the air force which had a really strong team by the way. On c and j he opened with 145 easy went to 155 pressed the jerk out and missed the clean on his last with 155, so he totaled only 275 but got 4th place.
I opened with 112 on the snatch and moved to 117 for my second and 120 for my third all makes. Funny story on my third snatch as i was chalking up my thumb tape came off in the chalk tray I almost bumped up the weight so I could retape but said screw it and got rally lucky to make it. Two guys ahead of me bombed on the snatch so I finished the snatch in 4th place. One guy that bombed missed his opener made his second but dropped the bar too early, and didnt follow the bar down on his third and got red lighted I guess he was a rookie. On the clean and jerk I opened with 132 and went to 140 for my second, occilated the bar and got red lighted, but moved up and made 142 for my third, fairly easily, looking back I may have had a shot at 4th but would have had to c and j 152 so who knows if that would have gone, but overall I am very pleased with the 5th place.
From the time we got to the competition site Juice was amazed at how strong everyone was he couldnt believe how technically efficient these guys were needless to say he was very very nervous. In the warmup room he looked like his same old self, but his opener with 115 was unbelievably a perfect power snatch, it was like his technique had just improved by watching these other guys. His second attempt was 125 which was a pr and looked better than 115 did. On his third he tried 132 and just cut the pull a little bit and caught it out front, but there is no doubt he could have made that if he had another shot. On clean and jerk he opened with 150 power clean and power jerk very easily. On his second he missed the jerk with 157, but made it easily on his third. He finished 7th in probably the hardest weight class in the whole competition, I think the only super that wasn’t there was casey burgener. There is no doubt in my mind had he had another week of training 140 and 170 would have gone. He was fairly pleased and seemed like he definitely wants to keep lifting. At least 5 coaches came up to justin and I and were amazed at how strong he was. Zach Schlunder who won the class with a 350 total kept telling juice and I how amazed he was that he had only been lifting for 6 weeks, so hopefully this meet motivated juice to keep going. Oh yeah the anouncer after his last c and j said something to the effect that that lift had to be the most done in a pair of chuck taylors ever. Tell Rip not to be suprised if he has a few calls for people wanting the tfh t shirt Kyle Pierce thought they were great.
